The Emergency Patch Kit is designed to make field-repair a breeze and to get you back home no matter what. Unlike other quick or emergency patch kits that only have a layer of urethane and the adhesive, the Nylon-Kevlar weave provides structural strength meaning your patch will last far longer and in the worst of conditions.
The emergency patches are also great if you want to add extra material to your packraft in specific areas. For example, if you hook your boat every time you go fishing, your dog has claws like a wolverine, you’re on the river eight days a week, you live at the local whitewater park, you are habitually abusing certain parts of your packraft based on your unique adventures, or you have the luck of the dinosaurs, reinforcing your packraft is probably a good idea.
The patches work on ALL TPU coated surfaces. For Kokopelli it works on the outside of the Hornet-lite, Rogue-lite, and Rogue. It works on both the inside and outside of the Nirvana Spraydeck, Nirvana Self-Bailing, Twain, and Castaway XL due to our unique double coating.
HOW TO INSTALL
- Cut the patch to size and be sure to round the corners. We recommend making it about 2 cm beyond the hole or tear.
- Dry off the area you will be patching, clean with rubbing alcohol, and allow to dry.
- Apply the patch and then smooth out any air-bubbles using a credit card or something with a straight edge. Allow to cure for at least 20 minutes.
NOTE: A full 24 hour cure in stable conditions will create the most effective patch but obviously this isn’t always possible. For an external patch in adverse conditions (rainy, snowy, or very humid), it will last a few days at least if you are still on the river. If you have a Tizip an internal patch and external patch is recommend and can extend the life of the patch exponentially.
Lifespan of the patch depends on how dry and clean the area being patched is and the quality of the patch. Factors like application technique (try not to touch the bottom/sticky-side of the patch with your fingers), cure time (20 minutes minimum but 1 hour or longer is best), and most importantly dryness/cleaness of the surface are can be the difference between a nearly-permanent patch and one that’ll last just a few days.
